Kilroy Was Here is thought to have originated at Quincy’s Bethlehem Steel Shipyard during World War II. James Kilroy, a rivet inspector at the shipyard, left the mark after rivets passed his inspection. The icon then traveled the world as the ships joined with Allied forces.
